Swift Kick in the Grass:1

Okay, so now I’m starting a new subtopic on this board about Soccer. For those of you who don’t know, I coach a high school boys team in Western Kentucky in the heart of the basketball capitol of West Ky. Needless to say, soccer isn’t the sport of choice around here. However, we hold our own (20-16-5 over my career and a district runner-up title). Anyway, I’ll talk more about our team later, but for now the important bit is…
USA 2 Mexico 0
On US soil the US has owned Mexico since 2000. In fact, Mexico has failed to score on the US the last for US home games. It’s even more impressive when you consider that the game last night played in Arizona featured a heavily pro-Mexican crowd.
For those of you who don’t follow International Soccer, Mexico is generally considered a much better team then the US… at least it gets more respect. We’ve caught them and passed them. They did better at the World Cup last time, but they had a much easier draw (we had to play the eventual champs early, and we kept Italy to a 1-1 tie). Anyway, those that follow soccer are living it up right now in the good ol’ USA… anytime you beat a border rival it’s a good day!
